pink dreams in a land with no name
Both artists, Sara Madandar and Shahram Karimi, in their own style are inspired by Persian History and land. In his paintings and video paintings, Karimi recounts fragments of his memories and national history, a piece of his personal past . People, flowers, the ambience of An Iranian village bespeak of the past simplicity of Iran and yet on the same canvas, on a remote corner depict a historical event.
Madandar, in her new mixed media series « A Land With No Name » imagines a free land, one with no name, borders or flags. The land she imagines takes the shape of a woman’s body - her body becoming her homeland. This series also deals with the questions of gender and national identity. Sara uses paintings and a video installation to break down and reconfigure how we think of place, nation, identity and gender.
